Do Australians really understand what this carbon tax is about?

I was struck by a comment in this Australian story about the carbon tax passing today through the House of Representatives. Its not the first time I have seen comments that completely show no understanding of the carbon tax.

“People with respiratory complaints will most certainly benefit with what will be cleaner air for them.” . Does Charles of NSW have any idea what the carbon tax is about? Carbon Dioxide is not know for causing respiratory complaints. If the Australia Federal Government removed 100% of the carbon dioxide from the air, there would be exactly the same number of people with respiratory complaints, but unfortunately with no carbon dioxide in the atmosphere there would be no plant growth worldwide, so people who had respiratory complaints would, along with everyone else, starve to death.

Eventually the real effects of the Carbon Tax will dawn on the minority of Australians that support the tax, and they may well join the majority that opposes it.

However on this very day that the Carbon Tax was passed through the Australian Federal Parliament here were the top ten read stories on news.com.au, as well as that pro climate change paper, The Age. Obviously Australians care little:

England has it coldest summer in 18 years

The carbon dioxide levels go up every year. The IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change) forecasts show that the world should be warming more and more, yet observation does not match those computer models.

England has had its coldest summer since 1993, with an average temperature of 15C. The normal average is 17C. This is not just the odd cold day, this is a entire season. Last December was the coldest December in 120 years in the UK.

Is it just possible that the climate scientists have their computer models wrong? The latest CLOUD (Cosmics Leaving Outdoor Droplets) experiments at CERN show what some climate change sceptics have been saying for years, that Cosmic Rays effect cloud formation. This means that the existing computer models for cloud formation are wrong, and that the sun can have a bigger input on the earth’s atmosphere than previously thought.

However our Prime Minister Julia Gillard says the science is settled.

Just maybe this object 140 million kilometres away, may have more influence of the climate than man made carbon dioxide

According to the Australian Federal Government Treasury modelling the introduction of a carbon tax will reduce Australia’s National Income. How much will it be decreased by over the 38 years to 2050?

The Treasury modelling predicts that GDP (Gross Domestic Product) will be 2.8 per cent lower in 2050 than it would have been without a carbon tax. Doesn’t seem much, only 2.8%? Well try adding the reduction in GDP over the 38 years and you get $1.35 trillion dollars.

That is what it will cost Australians over the next 38 years more than one trillion dollars in lost income.

Imagine how many hospitals, roads and schools could be built over the next 38 years with that $1.38 trillion dollars?

It is expected that Governor of Texas Rick Perry will announce he will join the Presidential race this Saturday August 13th. As Rick Perry has been a successful Governor of Texas for 11 years, and current President Barack Obama has such low poll ratings, its a good chance that the next President of the United States will be Governor Rick Perry.

Governor Rick Perry is a climate change skeptic.

So how this this affect the Gillards Government proposed Carbon Tax?

The treasury modelling of the carbon tax assumes that the USA and all other developed countries will have a carbon trading scheme in place by 2016. If Governor Rick Perry gets elected in 2012 than means no carbon tax or trading scheme in the USA until well after 2016, and that assumes he is only a one term president. Even if President Barack Obama is re-elected in 2012 he is unlikely to have a majority in the House of Representatives, in fact the Democrats may not even hold a majority in the Senate. That means there is no chance of any legislation passing Congress until after 2014, and more likely nothing will pass unit after 2016.

So where is Australia going to trade for carbon credits? The rock solid reliable Euro-zone?

Australia will be going it alone, while the worlds second biggest emitter of Carbon Dioxide (after China) will have no carbon tax or trading scheme.

Just one Indian State will install more coal-fired power stations than all of Australia

The Indian State of Andhra Pradesh is in the process of installing 37 coal-powered power stations over the next few years. The capacity of these extra 37 coal-fired power stations is 56GW, which compares with Australia’s total installed electricity capacity of 57GW. As an example, just one coal-fired power station at Krishnapatnam is under construction which will have a capacity of 4000MW. This compares with Victoria’s Hazelwood coal-fired power station which supplies 25% of Victoria’s power and has a capacity of just 1600MW.

So the Federal Labor/Green alliance government is going to use hundreds of millions of dollars of Australian taxpayers money to close down Hazelwood power station. At the same time in India, just one (of many) Indian states is building a new coal-fired power station with twice the installed capacity of Hazelwood, as well as dozens more coal-fired power stations.

So closing down Hazelwood is going to stop Climate Change?

Sea level rise slowing

You will not find the head of the Climate Commission Professor Tim Flannery mentioning this, because he prefers scaremongering high sea levels that are above the IPCC estimates. You will not hear Malcolm Turnbull mentioning this as he wants to respect the science and ignore “less reliable” scientists that do not fit in with his carefully self-selected science. You will not hear Prime Minister Julia Gllard mentioning this, because for her the science is settled.

However a recent paper shows that Australian sea-level rise has been slowing between 1940-2000. The difference with this research is that it uses real tide-gauges rather than computer models predicting sea level increases. Another study had previously shown that “Extending the sea level record back over the entire century suggests that the high variability in the rates of sea level change observed over the past 20 years were not particularly unusual”.

How will the doom-sayers cope?

Treasury modelling shows coal production drops by 30% by 2020

Prime Minister Julia Gillard and Treasurer Wayne Swan might keep saying that the coal industry has a bright future, but the Treasury economic modelling shows a different story.

Wayne Swan said only two days ago that “Australia was going to be exporting more coal”. That way the Chinese can burn it in their power stations instead of ours.

Perhaps Treasurer Swan should read some of his departments economic modelling. To quote from the Treasury modelling “In 2020, coal mining output is around 30 per cent lower than it would otherwise be” .

Looking at the attached graph it shows even greater variability, with a possible drop of up to 45% in coal production:

The latest carbon ad, paid for again by the Australian taxpayer to further ‘educate’ us about renewable energy.

This advertisement features Geodynamics, a renewable energy company that has spend the last ten years trying to develop geothermal energy production near Innamincka in northern South Australia.

How many Megawatts has Geodynamics produced in electricity?

Zero.

Geodynamics has spent ten years spruiking its grand plans. This Greens/Labor Government ad states that 10 percent of Australia’s power could come from geothermal, yet in ten years with ten of millions of dollars of government subsidy Geodynamics has produced not one watt of power.

Geodynamics got its first $5 million government subsidy in 2005. In April 2007 Geodynamics chief executive Adrian Williams said that by 2010 they would be provide some power into the grid, so far zero. In November 2009 Geodynamics was awarded $150 from the Renewable Energy Demonstration Program (REDP), still no power.

In October 2008 Geodynamics announced it would provide a demonstration plant and provide power to the town of Innamincka, population 12, by early 2009. Now this is the company that this Labor Government advertisement is pushing as potentially providing ten percent of Australia’s base-load power. Have they managed to power the 12 people people in Innamincka in the following almost three years?

One of the new carbon tax ads, paid for by the Australian taxpayer to “educate” us. The start of the advertisement is about Hepburn Wind and there are two wind turbines in view.

The two wind turbine shown are made by Vestas a Spanish company who manufacture their Wind turbines in Spain, China and the USA.

No high-tech green jobs for Australians. We will lose high paid coal-miners and replace them with low paid workers who can dig holes for the foundations for the wind turbines.

And maybe they will need someone to polish the blades?

Now we should be really worried

Carbon Tax supporter Fairfax journalist Peter Martin tweets enthusiastically that 59 per cent of economists at the Economic Society support the carbon tax. We should be so relieved.

Are these the same economists that did not see the Global Financial Crisis (GFC) coming?

For example Peter Martin extolling the virtues of the Labor Government and how well it was doing, and how rosy the future looked in February 2008.

Or the Reserve Bank in March 2008 stating that inflation was the real problem, and Australia was just due for a bit of below par growth.

Of course there were those hundreds of economists in Treasury in January 2008 predicting an 18 billion dollar surplus for the Federal Government.

We should so trust economists. They are so good are predicting the future. How could they get a carbon tax wrong?

Here John Howard is interviewed by ABC carbon tax supporter Barrie Cassidy , and refutes Julia Gillard. John Howard says Australia should not move ahead of the world with a carbon tax:

New Chinese coal mine wipes out the savings from Australian Carbon Tax

A new coal mine in China, in Xinjiang Uygur being developed by Peabody Energy will produce almost as much CO2 as the CO2 emissions saved by Australia’s Carbon Tax.

Peabody Energy Corporation are to develop an open cut coal mine that will produce 50 million tonnes per year of coal. This coal burnt in power stations (or anywhere else) could produce up to 142 million tonnes of CO2 annually. (the exact amount depends on the type of coal). Thats 142 million tonnes per year of extra CO2 from just one coal mine, versus the 160 million tonnes saved with an Australian Carbon Tax.

Of course the Greens want to close down Australian coal mines.

Just one coal mine in China wipes out the efforts in Australia costing billions of dollars and hurting millions of Australians.

Treasury projection 2050 Carbon Price of $131 to $275 per tonne

Prime Minister Julia Gillard likes to tell the Australia people that the carbon tax will have only a small impact on them. However its only the beginning.

The treasury projections for 2050 are in real terms (discounted for inflation) from a minimum of $131 per tonne to a maximum of $275 per tonne. Of course the carbon tax will be hidden as an Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) by then, but it will still be a tax on Australian industry and people.

Imagine if a $23 per tonne carbon tax causes a 10% increase in power prices (although the NSW government says it will be 20%), what will a $275 carbon tax, ten times larger do to electricity prices?

Imagine what a carbon price on petrol and diesel, which the greens want to introduce, will do to fuel prices at a carbon tax of $275 per tonne?

Labor/Greens alliance Prime Minister Julia Gillard does not like to answer this question, because it is such a small number.

The Carbon Tax aims to reduce Australia’s CO2 output by 160 million tonnes. World CO2 emissions in 2008 were 29,888,121 million tonnes.

So that makes Australia’s CO2 reduction 0.00053533% . That is such a small number its hard to comprehend. Think of it as approximately 5/10,000 or 5 divided by ten thousand percent.

However that is based on 2008 CO2 output, and the 160 million tonnes saving is aimed to happen in 2020. What is the percentage saving of the worlds CO2 output by Australia in 2020?

Well its predicted that CO2 output will rise by 1.2% per annum. That means in 2020 world carbon dioxide emissions will be 34,487,742 million tonnes.

So Australia’s carbon tax saves 0.000463933% of the worlds CO2 output. Its even less than 5 divided by ten thousand percent.

Billions of dollars of taxes on Australia people and businesses. Extra federal government agencies with thousands more bureaucrats. Businesses closing and businesses moving off-shore.

All to save 0.000463933% of the worlds CO2 output.

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard is confronted by a real voter who questions her on her lie before the election where she claimed ” There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead”. This lie gave the Labor Party the chance to slip into government. Julia Gillard still denies she lied in this exchange, she does not understand the anger:

Australia the only country in the world with an economy-wide carbon tax

And the rest of the world does not care.

Australia will be the first country in the world to have an economy wide carbon tax. Even though Australia produces 1.32% of the worlds carbon dioxide output, we will be punishing our industry and people with a carbon tax.

And to meet the target of 160 Million tonnes of carbon dioxide, we will not be reducing our own emissions, we will achieve two thirds of it by sending $3.7 billion dollars per year overseas to buy permits.

So how does our 160 million tonnes reduction compare to China’s annual production of CO2? China produces 7,031 million tonnes of CO2 per annum. Thats 2.2 per cent of Chinas output. So if China increases it output by the same amount it did in 2010, by ten percent, the 160 million tonnes of Carbon Dioxide saved by Australia will be replaced by China in 3 months.

Billions of dollars in extra burdens on Australian workers, industry and consumers to be replaced by China in three months.

The Greens have already said they want to close down the coal industry and stop the export of coal. They also want to close down the brown coal power stations in the Latrobe Valley effectively closing down the brown coal industry in Victoria.

The latest is that the Greens are happy for the Carbon Tax to result in One Steel in Whyalla closing down, a town where 4000 of its 22,000 people are employed by One Steel. Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young wants Whyalla to magically become a high capacity wind generator manufacturer, which no one else does in Australia. In fact more and more of the manufacture of wind turbines happens in China. Senator Hansen-Young wants Eyre Peninsular covered in wind farms even through there is growing opposition to wind farms in South Australia.

The Australian Broadcasting Commission (ABC) gets a chance, on a slow news day on Sunday, to push its pro-carbon tax line. The article (with no byline other than ABC/AAP) reports in excited terms about the pro-carbon tax rallys in Australia Capital cities. The ABC had no problems quoting Don Henry head of the Australian Conservation Foundation (ACF) saying that because 10,000 rent-a-crowd protesters turned out in Melbourne (only 2000 in Brisbane) then that showed that the majority of people supported action on climate change. Really?

Its so disappointing for the ABC’s pro-carbon tax agenda when the next day the Daily Telegraph posts a story showing that 75% of people surveyed thought the carbon tax would do nothing to help the environment, and 64 percent of those surveyed wanted a new election, because they believed Prime Minister Julia Gillard had no mandate for a carbon tax. Especially when she promised before the election not to have a carbon tax.

Bob Brown wants you to forget what he said.

Australian Green Senator Bob Brown wants you to forget what he said in 2007. He wants you to forget that he said that he wanted the coal industry shut down. He was quite happy in 2007 to have tens of thousands of jobs lost, whole towns wiped out, support industries shut down.

He said in 2007 ” Last week, I called on whoever wins office at this year’s election to commit to a plan to phase out coal exports”. He was quite happy to retrench the 28,000 people that work in the coal industry plus the thousands of other workers who support the coal industry. He was quite happy for Australia to forgo the billions of dollars in export income from the coal industry.

However in 2011, Senator Bob Brown seems to have forgotten what he said. He now claims it was an invention of the evil Murdoch press. The transcript of a press conference he had:

INTERVIEWER: That $11 billion that you’re talking about is money that he would forego in the mining tax, and I noticed you started your budget and reply speech just there. How would you replace the $50 billion a year in export income which comes by way of coal – an industry that you’d shut down?

BROWN: Well, a lot of that money is bouncing straight back out to shareholders overseas. Now what we’re…

INTERVIEWER: A lot of that money is circulating in the economy. It’s creating job, Senator, it’s bouncing through to our cities.

BROWN: Yes, Chris, and what we would do is take the advice of the Treasury of this nation and recoup the $145 billion over the next 10 years through a super profits tax. Tony Abbott says…

INTERVIEWER: But you can’t recoup it if you shut the industry down.

BROWN: Treasury…

INTERVIEWER: If you shut the coal industry down there won’t be that money…

BROWN: I’m sorry…

INTERVIEWER: ..available to you.

BROWN: I’m sorry, Chris, Treasury has no intention to shut the industry down. it tends to- it tends…

INTERVIEWER: No, but you do.

BROWN: No, I’m not.

Another Climate Change evangelist also wants to shut the coal industry down, none other than Climate Commissioner Tim Flannery. Flannery said in 2007 that is was no longer socially acceptable for Australia to be exporting coal.

Carbon Price above $40 a tonne?

A Deloittes report commissioned by the Australian Federal Government states that the Carbon Tax price will have to be at least $40 per tonne to encourage the building of gas-fired power plants. Of course the Federal Government Labor/Green Alliance Climate Change Minister Greg Combet is running away as fast as he can from the idea that the Carbon Tax will be $40 per tonne. However the Greens are telling the truth, they know it will have to be well above $40 per tonne to make expensive alternative energy equal in price to cheap coal-fired power generation. Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young says that the Carbon Price would have to be above $100 per tonne.

The Federal Government Labor/Green Alliance does not want the Australian population to know that after we transfer from a Carbon Tax to and ETS the Carbon Tax could be much higher than $40 per tonne. With an ETS, the governments preferred model, they would have no control over the carbon price, it would be subject to the whims of the financial markets.

How much more will the Australia public be forced to pay for electricity, petrol, diesel and goods and services if the Carbon Price is greater than $40 per tonne?

People who believe completely in the AGW (anthropomorphic Global Warming) view of the world have been in recent time referred to as “warmists”. While the anti AGW proponents are referred to as Climate Change Skeptics, or Climate Change deniers. There is a new term for warmists, that is “Warmenist”.

A great description from Urban Dictionary:

Gullible, scientificially illiterate, unthinking acolyte and zombie-fied propagandist of the Religion of Anthropogenic Global Warming. One who takes direct orders from High Priest King of Idiocy, Albert J. Gore. One who puts the “mental” in environmentalism. Historical inheritors of those who believed that King Canute could hold back the tides and that the wolf would eat the moon unless their first-born daughter’s virginity was sacrificed to the local shaman.

I have always thought that for a lot of warmist, Global Warming is a religion. They believe, and do not read or accept any evidence to the contrary.

Garnaut, if you disagree with me you are ignorant

Professor Ross Garnaut who is an economist, not a climate scientist, says that the debate on the carbon tax is a debate between science and ignorance. If you don’t agree with the Professor, you are ignorant.

He said- ” It’s not the first time we’ve had contests between knowledge and ignorance that are of great significance for the future of our civilisation but this is certainly one of them.” .

This seems pretty clear. If you do not believe in the interpretation of Climate Science as put forward by Economist Professor Ross Garnault, then you must be on the ignorant side of the debate.

Why the Carbon Tax is not like the GST

Once the GST was passed by the Australian Parliament most people accepted the GST as a new tax, and a done deal. Many people may have whinged about its implementation, the dreaded BAS form, and all that is involved in the GST. Ultimately in the end, nearly everyone agrees that the Federal Government has to collect tax, and we have to pay it.

The Carbon Tax is very, very different.

For a start at least a quarter of the population (at least), don’t believe the premise that the tax is based upon, that is that climate change is caused by the human race. This means at least a quarter of the population is never ever going to accept a Carbon Tax. Every election they will remember that the Federal Labor/Greens alliance has imposed a tax on them personally that they feel is unjustified. They might be mostly Liberal voters, but you can be sure there are a fair proportion of Climate Change Skeptics in the Australian Labor Party (ALP).

There are about 40% of the population, are not sure about the cause of Climate Change. This might be a nice issue to discuss at the BBQ on a Sunday with a beer in hand, but after 1st July 2012, they will be paying for a Carbon Tax whether they are sure or not. So this interesting philosophical question of the cause of climate change becomes a hip-pocket question, which clarifies the mind. Lots of these unsure people will start searching the internet and talking to friends, and finding out there is another, skeptical view, about climate change, one the mainstream media does not normally mention. Some of these people will also go to the Federal Election in late 2013 annoyed that they have been forced to pay a Carbon Tax by the Federal Labor/Green alliance, for something they don’t believe in.

Every time electricity prices go up they will blame the Carbon Tax (whether it is true or not). If a Carbon tax is applied to petrol or diesel, every time the fuel price goes up they will blame the Carbon Tax. This is the reason John Howard dropped indexation of fuel excise, because it had become a community mantra, that every time fuel went up, it was because the Federal Government was getting more money from excise, yet really it was just rising world prices. Doesn’t matter, when fuel prices go up – it will be the Carbon Tax. In fact when anything goes up in price – it will be the Carbon Tax….

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard has announced Australia will have a Carbon Tax in place from 1st July 2012. Australians will then pay more for fuel and Electricity.

All Australian businesses will pay more for their energy use. Any overseas competitor in the USA or China will not have to pay a Carbon Tax.

Even if your business does not export, your costs will go up, and any imported item from the USA or China will not have a Carbon Tax, and thus will be relatively cheaper.

The Carbon Tax will result in industries being shifted overseas to countries that do not have a Carbon Tax (almost every other country in the world)

The Carbon Tax will increase inflation in Australia, and add cost to every item. Every item, every service, needs fuel to move it, electricity to store it, so every item, every service will become more expensive. Alan Kohler says manufacturing will be devastated

The Carbon Tax will hit poorer families who live in the outer suburbs more. There transport costs are higher. Even if they take public transport, they will pay more, because the Carbon Price will flow into the cost of public transport. The poorer families pay a higher proportion of their income for Electricity, which means they will pay an even higher proportion of their income.

Yet another climate change committee

The Federal Labor/Green alliance government, not content with wasting the taxpayers money on the Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency, is going to waste another $5.6 million dollars on a Climate Commission headed by Tim Flannery. This Commission according to Minister Greg Combet “It will provide expert advice on climate change science and impacts” . Well read on to see some of Tim Flannery’s previous “expert advice on climate change”:

That is Tim Flannery with no qualifications in Climate Science, he has a doctorate in Palaeontology.

This is the Tim Flannery that said in 2005 that droughts could leave Sydneys Dams dry in just two years.

The Tim Flannery that said that most climate skeptics were men over 65.

The Professor Tim Flannery that said in 2008 “The water problem is so severe for Adelaide that it may run out of water by early 2009.” (Adelaide’s Dams are almost full)

The Tim Flannery who said in 2007 that “Sydney and Brisbane, water supplies are so low they need desalinated water urgently, possibly in as little as 18 months”. No desal plant is being used anywhere, because all the three cities have too much water in their Dams.

The Tim Flannery who said in 2004 that “I think there is a fair chance Perth will be the 21st century’s first ghost metropolis” . Ten years into the 21st Century, Perth is still there.

The Tim Flannery who said in 2008 (three years ago) that “in five years there’ll be no Arctic ice cap“. Well the Arctic Icecap is still there, but Tim Flannery says there is only two years left.

Tim Flannery who said in 2007 ” I think it’s too late for debate now”, and have no doubt that Tim Flannery wants a Carbon Tax, he said in 2007 “Carbon tax is the way forward” , so much for the ‘independence’. Tim Flannery is just a propagandist for the Labor Government.

Its an indication of how much this Labor Government is out of touch with the people, that they somehow think the appointment of a serial alarmist and exaggerator will be a PR positive.

UPDATE: Tim Flannery was interviewed the next day (11/2/11) on 891 Adelaide by Ian Henschke. Three times Ian Henschke asked him “are you a climate scientist”, and three times Tim Flannery squirmed and evaded the question. Tim Flannery gets $180,000 per year for a part time job, and he is not even a climate scientist.

The Climate Change alarmists are getting frustrated with the Australian population, and its growing climate change skepticism. If individuals or countries do not toe the Climate Change Religion line, then its time to use force.

That failed Greens candidate in the Higgins by-election Clive Hamilton, says its time for “the suspension of democratic processes”, and Dan Cass says if a country will not bring its carbon emissions down to zero then we need to “enforce climate security through trade sanctions or ultimately force itself”.

Its the Climate Change Religion. Show your support for the orthodox view, or we will force you to think the way we want you to think. Heretics must be purged.

Most Australians do not believe in Climate Change being man-made

The latest survey from Essential Media shows that the majority of Australians do not believe that Climate Change is caused by mankind.

More interestingly a bare majority of Labor voters (53%) believe that “Climate change is happening and is caused by human activity”. This will be interesting when Prime Minister Julia Gillard brings in a Carbon Tax that 47% of her supporters do not believe in. And the trend is going the wrong way for Julia Gillard and the Labor/Green alliance. One year ago 53% of people though Global warming was man-made, and a year later its only 45%.

Liberal opposition leader Tony Abbott should stick with his climate skeptic line, where only 32% of Liberal Voters believe in man-made Climate Change. Tony Abbott will gain climate skeptics from Labor Party supporters.

David Marr on insiders just last Sunday stated that the majority of Australians wanted action on Climate Change. How can that be? When the majority of Australians do not even believe that Climate Change is caused by humans?

The Australian commentariat keeps trying to tell the Australian people what they should believe, and the Australian public just thinks for itself.

Just a few hours later the Australian comes out with Newspoll, and another Climate Change survey result. But what strange questions. They ask “Do you personally believe or not that climate change is occurring?”. Its been warming since the Little Ice age, so what does that question mean?. Then of the people that answer yes, they ask is it “Entirely” or “Partly” cause by human activity. 70% of people answer “partly”. Only 24% say “Entirely”, and that has dropped from 32% a year ago, so the true Climate Change believers are still trending down.

So what does “Partly” mean?. You might believe, as many people do, that there is some slight warming, and that warming has been going on for hundreds of years.As well you might believe that CO2 has some very small effect on that warming. In that example, according to Newspoll, you are a Climate Change believer, when really you are no such thing.

The more telling survey result is do you support a carbon tax “that would help slow global warming”. In this result only 47% are in favour, which is very close to the Essential Media poll result above that have 45% believing in human caused climate change. So around 30% of the “Partly” believe that humans influence climate change, but do not believe its enough to warrant doing anything about it. Its all trending the wrong way for Julia Gillards Labor/Green alliance.

On the World Today on ABC radio today (may 21st 2010) Shane McLeod interviewed Alarmist environmentalist Bill McKibben. Was there any serious questioning of McKibben of some of his outrageous claims? – Of course not – this is the ABC remember – back on the climate change bandwagon.

Bill McKibben says: “Everything frozen on Earth is melting” . Everything?? . Antarctica with its increasing sea ice levels?

Bill McKibben also says: “The kind of 100 year storm comes every three or four years now in many places around the world” Where? What 100 year storms have we had in Australia every 3 or 4 years?

And the incisive question that follows these alarmist claims – with no evidence - from Shane McLeod – “This is all pretty depressing stuff.”

No questioning of what is obviously just hyperbole. Typical of the ABC. If you want to get on air to promote your latest Global Warming is the end of the world disaster book – no problem, we won’t ask any complicated questions!

The Great Moral Challenge, but Kevin Rudd now thinks its a challenge that can be put off for a few years. Kevin Rudd who said we had to have the ETS (Emissions Trading Scheme) in place before Copenhagen December 2009, to set an example to the world. We would loose the Great Barrier Reef if we did not have an ETS.

Now its not so desperate?

That would not be because Climate Change Skepticism is on the rise would it Kevin?

If Kevin Rudd really believed this, he would go to a double dissolution Election and fight his case, and get the ETS bill passed as a joint sitting of the House of Reps and the Senate after the election (if he won).

The real reason is that Kevin Rudd and the Labor party have embraced Climate Change is that it is a trendy political cause, and that cause has lost its popularity. We don’t here the “Global warming the end is nigh” stories every day, because even the naive journalists have realised its more religion than science.

And what about the Greens? Political purity is more important than practice? They want to reduce Carbon emissions, they block the bill because its not “pure” enough for them, and they end up with no bill, no scheme to reduce carbon at all. What were they thinking?
